Our Soloists for Fauré’s Requiem – Anna Sideris and Matthew Buswell
We are delighted to announce that Anna Sideris and Matthew Buswell are the Soprano and Baritone soloists in the JCS and Brandenburg Sinfonia’s performance of the Fauré Requiem on Thursday 5 April at St Martin in the Fields.
Anna Sideris trained on the opera programme at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied with Janice Chapman, supported by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. Anna received a Masters in Performance with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music where she worked with Jenny Dakin and Audrey Hyland, supported by the Kohn Foundation, the Josephine Baker Trust and Help Musicians UK. She obtained her undergraduate degree from New College Oxford University, where she held a scholarship and sang in masterclasses with eminent singers, such as Renee Fleming, Toby Spence and Ann Murray.
This season Anna performed Donna Elvira Don Giovanni (Mozart) with Opera Loki, soprano soloist in a staged Messiah (Handel), and Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) with Merry Opera Company.
Other operatic experience includes Lucy The Telephone (Menotti) for Salon Opera, Tamiri cover Il Re Pastore (Mozart) for New Chamber Opera.
Anna has recorded two Fauré songs for BBC Radio 3, ‘Music Matters’, and performed in a number of recitals for the Rimbaud & Verlaine foundation at Kings Place, London. Other concerts include soprano soloist in Mass in C minor (Mozart) performed in Bath Abbey, Improvisations sur Mallarmé (Boulez) with the Manon Ensemble for Aldeburgh festival and Vier letzte lieder (Strauss) with the Oxford Millennium Orchestra. Anna works for the charity “Live Music Now!” with the purpose of introducing classical music to wider audiences. Anna also works for Glyndebounre Opera and Garsington Opera education departments as a teaching artist.
Future plans include Juliette cover Roméo et Juliette (Gounod) for Grange Park Opera and Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) for Dartington Summer Festival.
Matthew Buswell trained at the Royal College of Music (RCM). He completed a Master’s Degree in Performance with Distinction, as well as a First Class Honours Bachelor of Music Degree. Whilst at the RCM he performed a number of roles with the Royal College of Music International Opera School (RCMIOS) including, L’arbre L’enfant et le sortilege, Superintendent Budd Albert Herring, Sarastro Die Zauberflöte, Il sonnoArianna in Creta and Licaone Giove in Argo.
For British Youth Opera, Matthew Buswell’s operatic performances have included Calmon The Little Green Swallow, Death Savitri, and the 8 bass roles in Malcolm Williamson’s The English Eccentrics. Matthew Buswell joined Garsington Opera as an Alvarez Young Artist covering the roles of Haly in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri and Antonio Le nozze di Figaro.
Other recent roles include Count Monterone Rigoletto, Speaker, Second Priest and Second Armed Man The Magic Flute, Sacristan and Sciarrone Tosca, and Luka The Bear (Walton). His repertoire also includes Cadmus and Somnus Semele, Figaro Le nozze di Figaro, Mars/John Styx Orpheus in the Underworld, Leporello Don Giovanni and GuglielmoCosi fan tutte and Zaretsky Eugene Onegin.
His major concert performances in the UK have included Raphael & Adamin Haydn’s Creation (Guildford Cathedral), Mozart Requiem and Solemn Vespers and Brahms Ein deutches Requiem (St Martin-in-the-Fields), Beethoven Mass in C (St. John’s, Smith Square), Beethoven Symphony No 9(Portsmouth University), Christus in Bach’s St Matthew Passion (Highgate Choral Society), Fauré Requiem (Temple Church).
In 2018 Matthew Buswell will make his débuts at the Opéra de Lyon, as Soldat Der Kreidekreis, at Grange Park Opera as Sam Un ballo in maschera and at Longborough Festival Opera as Seneca L’incoronazione di Poppea.
